Backcountry ski guiding and splitboard guiding in Lassen National Park
The Outdoor Adventure Club offers professionally guided backcountry ski and backcountry splitboard (snowboard) trips in Lassen National Park! As a professional guide service, we’ve been permitted and insured to guide backcountry skiing, splitboarding, and AIARE avalanche classes in Lassen for over 20 years. Our guides know the terrain in the park better than anyone, and will put you on the best snow possible each day, while also choosing appropriate terrain for your skill, your objectives and the current conditions.

Group guided backcountry trips- 2 days on weekends, staying in our cabin
Join one of our regularly scheduled guided backcountry ski weekends, and you’ll have 2 days of professionally guided skiing or splitboarding, as well as the fun of staying in our house in Mineral with the others in the group. You’ll ski during the day, and enjoy ski movies and games in the living room at night, as well as comfy beds and hot showers! Breakfasts and lunches are included. Dinner can be BYO at tehe cabin, or we can go out to the nearby Mineral Lodge or Highlands Ranch (Dinner is not included) Staying at the OAC Mineral Cabin Is a fun, social scene as well as a great way to get some downhill skiing and snowboarding in!
We offer two levels of guided ski trips; Intro trips and “intermediate” trips.
Intro to Backcountry Weekends:
- Perfect for your first or second backcountry experience
- You’ll learn how to skin properly
- You’ll learn how to make uphill turns
- You’ll learn how to make effective transitions
- You’ll have an avalanche rescue clinic
- And you’ll have two days of skiing or snowboarding!
Our intro trips are more than just a clinic….you’ll be getting into ski terrain and making downhill turns! On Day One we learn the basics while out skiing. Then on the second day we can choose to travel farther, and get more skiing in while continuing to learn and practice skills.
Our Intro weekends are ideally suited for people who can ski or snowboard competently on ungroomed slopes in resorts. Conditions in the backcountry can range from deep powder to firm crusts. This is not a weekend to learn how to ski, but a weekend to take your existing intermediate or better skiing skills into the backcountry.
Intermediate Backcountry Weekends
- Perfect for people who have experience with skinning techniques
- Our guides will choose terrain and routes based on conditions and the group
- You’ll get to see great ski terrain in Lassen National Park
- You’ll have two days of guided skiing or snowboarding
- You’ll have an avalanche rescue clinic
Intermediate guided backcountry weekends are fun! If you already know how to skin, make kick turns, do transitions, this could be the trip for you. Our guides will choose the best terrain to ski each day, based on the avalanche and weather conditions, as well as the skill and fitness of the group. We will still provide coaching and help you improve your form while skinning, but you should be familiar with backcountry gear and have enough experience to not need a full class on how it is used. Our expectation for intermediate trips is you’ll be able to pack your pack, put your skins on and be ready to go, without much instruction.
After the first day of skiing or splitboarding, your guide will have a better idea of the group’s fitness and skill, and we can fine tune the terrain for the second day based on the group.
Private Guiding backcountry ski or splitboard trips- solo or groups, any day
Hire an OAC guide for a day or two, and we’ll put you on the best snow available each day, as well as choose terrain that is well-suited to your stated experience, skill, and objectives. With over 100 routes to choose from, we know where to go in Lassen National Park for the best snow.

You can combine private guiding with a stay in our cabin, or we can meet in the Park, if you have other accommodations. We love meeting clients at the Highlands Ranch, too!
A standard private day starts around 8:30 am, and goes until 4:30 pm. But it’s your day, and we can flex those times to suit your desires.

Private guiding rates are $450/day, for 1 or 2 skiers. ($225/person for two skiers). Additional skiers are $100 each. Avalanche gear is included.
