Our Professional Rock Climbing Program
Our Professional Rock Climbing Trips
Explore the best cracks, crags and faces on rock climbing trips with the Outdoor Adventure Club.
Our rock climbing program consists of two paths: Guided climbing trips and technical/safety courses. Our outdoor rock climbing days will help you become a better climber, while our technical classes will help you become a safer climber. All our trips are full days, typically from 8-4. When other guide services are packing up, we’re setting up more climbs for you! You’ll get a full day of instruction from an experienced, well-trained and supportive climbing guide. We provide all the climbing gear you’ll need, including shoes, harness, helmet, belay device. In addition to the trips and classes listed here, we are always happy to put together a custom rock climbing trip for you.
Why climb with the Outdoor Adventure Club?
We are professional guides. We’ve been teaching the Bay Area to climb since 1996. You are spending the day with a guide trained by the American Mountain Guides Association and certified as a Wilderness First Responder. Our focus is not only on taking you out and letting you climb, but setting up the safest climbing situations, and teaching you in a very patient, supportive and friendly manner. Besides safety, OAC guides are knowledgeable of the climbing scene, and eager to help you develop your climbing skills. Also unlike other outfitters who offer shorter climbing days with much less time on the rope, we keep going! When you climb with us, you’ll get a full day of climbing in. We’ve seen some discount climbing companies packing up at 1:00, while we’re moving to our second location for the day. And we don’t just send you up the rope, we teach you to climb because we love climbing! Did we also mention a smaller guide to climber ratio for more personalized instruction.
- Beginner Climbing Days: Our full day beginner climbing days are perfect for anyone who has never climbed before, or anyone with limited indoor climbing experience. We place an emphasis on teaching the belay (safety) system to the highest modern standard on beginner days.
- Beyond Basics Climbing Days: Beyond basics climbing days are full days and appropriate for climbers of any skill level who can tie in and belay competently and confidently at the start of the day. We’ll focus on getting as many climbs in as possible during the day. Your Outdoor Adventure Club guide will give you tips and instruction throughout the day to coach you through the climbs.
- Women’s Climbing Days: Women are excellent climbers, and our Women’s Climbing Days encourage women of all climbing skill levels to come together, climb together and support each other as you work through challenges and achieve your goals. These are full day trips.
All of our climbing courses are held outdoors:
- Climber’s Gear and Anchor Class: Our Gear & Anchor Class prepares you to set up your own climbing anchors when you go climbing with your friends. In this class, you’ll learn/review knots, learn to place gear, and learn how to bring it all together to build top rope anchors in just about any situation.
- Climber’s Learn to Lead Class: The Learn to Lead Class gets you ready to climb on the “sharp end” of the rope. Class size is small to allow for great personal attention and feedback from our professional guides. It’s a full day of both “classroom style” learning and climbing.
- Climber’s Rock Rescue Class: The Rescue Class should be taken by anyone who climbs outdoors, regardless of climbing skill. This class prepares you to deal with common situations found in outdoor climbing, like what to do if your partner falls or is injured.
- Climber’s Multipitch Techniques Class: Spending a day in our multipitch class can save hours of climbing time, and the frustration of tangled ropes and cluttered belays when you are hundreds of feet off the ground. Learn to do it correctly and efficiently the first time!
- Climber’s Trust Your Trad Class: If you place gear, but don’t really know whether you can fall on it, this class is for you. You’ll climb, place gear, and load every piece you place. You’ll also get a side by side critique of your gear placements from your instructor.
Climbing and Camping Weekends: These are our favorites! After a great day of rock climbing, head back to camp where you can trade stories from your day with your Outdoor Adventure Club climbing partners and guides, gathered around the campfire. Fall asleep thinking of your climbing successes from today, and planning your challenges for tomorrow. Wake up to a great breakfast, then spend a second day on the rocks. That’s a weekend! Weekend Trips are offered at Pinnacles, Consumnes, Joshua Tree, and Donner Summit.
