Rock Climbing Trips and Classes with the Outdoor Adventure Club

Make every weekend count on the rock!

Skip the details and go directly to trips

Rock climbing with the Outdoor Adventure Club at Castle RockThe Outdoor Adventure Club is the Bay Area's most experienced climbing school and guide service. We've safely taught thousands of people to rock climb, ice climb and become mountaineers. All of our climbing trips and classes are led by professional guides who have been trained by the American Mountain Guides Association.

Our rock climbing program consists of two paths: our outdoor rock climbing days will help you become a better climber, while our technical classes will help you become a safer climber. In addition to the trips and classes listed here, we are always happy to put together a custom trip for you. We can accommodate groups from one to 25 climbers.

All our trips are full days. When we go rock climbing we go all day! You'll get a full day of instructon from an experienced, well-trained and supportive climbing guide. We provide all the climbing gear you'll need, Gear and Anchor Rock Climbing course with the Outdoor Adventure Clubincluding shoes, harness, helmet, belay device.

Why climb with the Outdoor Adventure Club?
In a word, or four, we are professional guides. We've been teaching the bay area to climb since 1996. Whether you are with Richard, Cody, Heather or Will, you are spending the day with a guide trained by the American Mountain Guides Association, and certified as a Wilderness First Responder.

Unlike some"adventure" groups, we don't contract out our climbing. We are your guides. Our focus is not only on taking you out and letting you climb, but setting up the safest climbing situations, and teaching you in a very patient, supportive and friendly manner. Besides safety, the OAC guides are knowledgeable of the climbing scene, and eager to help you develop your climbing skills.

Also, our trips are last all day long, not several hours like other guide services and we offer some fo the best pricing around for our members!

There are three ways for you to join our rock climbing adventures:

Beginner and Beyond Basics Rock Climbing Day Trips

Beginner Climbing Days: Our full day beginner climbing days are perfect for anyone who has never climbed before, or anyone with limited indoor climbing experience. We place an emphasis on teaching the belay (safety) system to the highest modern standard on beginner days.

Beyond Basics Climbing Days: Beyond basics climbing days are full days and appropriate for climbers of any skill level who can tie in and belay competently and confidently at the start of the day. We'll focus on getting as many climbs in as possible during the day. Your Outdoor Adventure Club guide will give you tips and instruction throughout the day to coach you through the climbs.

Women's Climbing Days: Women are excellent climbers, and our Women's Climbing Days encourage women of all climbing skill levels to come together, climb together and support each other as you work through challenges and achieve your goals. These are full day trips.

Specialty Rock Climbing Courses

Climber's Gear and Anchor Class: Our Gear & Anchor Class prepares you to set up your own climbing anchors when you go climbing with your friends. In this class, you'll learn/review knots, learn to place gear, and learn how to bring it all together to build top rope anchors in just about any situation.

Climber's Learn to Lead Class: The Learn to Lead Class gets you ready to climb on the "sharp end" of the rope. Class size is small to allow for great personal attention and feedback from our professional guides. It's a full day of both "classroom style" learning and climbing.

Climber's Self-Rescue Class: The Self-Rescue Class should be taken by anyone who climbs outdoors, regardless of climbing skill. This class prepares you to deal with common situations found in outdoor climbing, like what to do if your partner falls or is injured.

Climber's Multipitch Techniques Class: Spending a day in our multipitch class can save hours of climbing time, and the frustration of tangled ropes and cluttered belays when you are hundreds of feet off the ground. Learn to do it correctly and efficiently the first time!

Rock Climbing and Camping Weekends

Climbing and Camping Weekends: These are our favorites! After a great day of rock climbing, head back to camp where you can trade stories from your day with your Outdoor Adventure Club climbing partners and guides, gathered around the campfire. Fall asleep thinking of your climbing successes from today, and planning your challenges for tomorrow. Wake up to a great breakfast, then spend a second day on the rocks. That's a weekend! Weekend Trips are offered at Pinnacles, Consumnes, Joshua Tree, and Donner Summit.
