Thanksgiving Weekend - Backpacking in Yosemite
November 26-28 Burn off the turkey and cranberries, and spend the weekend backpacking in Yosemite.
Hiking to Rancheria Falls is a great fall backpacking trip in Yosemite.
The relatively low elevations of the hike make it a great trip when the high country is starting to get its blanket of snow.
The combination of a beautiful trail skirting the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, amazing scenery as we cross waterfalls on the way to Rancheria, and a beautiful area to camp when we arrive will delight all your senses.
The trip will start midday on Friday, to give everyone a chance to enjoy Thanksgiving, and still be able to make the trip.
We are going to hike along the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir on Friday for about 7 miles until we reach our camp for the weekend at Rancheria Falls. The air should be fresh, crisp, and invigorating!
On Saturday we'll get up and have a great breakfast, then we'll go for a day hike to visit the Tiltill Valley, a beautiful spot that doesn't get the crowds normally associated with Yosemite.
After coffee and a hot breakfast on Sunday we'll pack up camp and hike back under the cliffs that surround the reservoir to our cars.
The backpacking distance is about 7 miles each way. Although we never can say any backpacking trip is easy, this one is easier than most that we offer as the elevation gain is minimal. Fit beginner backpackers should be fine on this one, and experienced backpackers will enjoy getting out in the Hetch Hetchy area.
